Minister John Cummins welcomes vital €30.8m funding for Waterford roads

Minister of State for Planning & Local Government, John Cummins TD has welcomed the allocation of €30,879,588 for essential maintenance and repair work national, regional and local roads across Waterford City & County
€23,253,950 will be allocated to regional and local roads while a further €7,625,638 has been ringfenced for the repair and maintenance of the county’s national road network.
€1.127m will go toward the maintenance of regional and local roads, while €670,000 has been allocated for bridge rehabilitation, €497,000 will go to safety improvement works. €587,500 has been ringfenced for drainage works and a further €440,000 has been provided for climate adaptation works.
Welcoming the announcement, Minister Cummins said: “It’s fantastic to see funding being allocated for vital road repair projects throughout County Waterford. This investment will play an important role in improving connectivity, supporting local businesses and making the journey to school or work safer and more convenient for families in our communities.”
“I want to thank my Fine Gael councillor colleagues for advocating strongly and working with me on some of the specific roadsprojects that have received funding today and we will continue to work together to ensure that Waterford roads projects are prioritised for investment from the Department of Transport. It was one of the items for discussion with An Tánaiste Simon Harris last week when he visited Waterford.”
€435,000 has also been allocated for specific improvement grants across the county. €330,000 has been provided for a traffic calming scheme in Ballymacarbry which will reduce speed along the R671 in the vicinity of Ballymacarbry National School. €55,000 will go toward minor improvement works along the R680 Old Kilmeaden Road and a further €50,000 has been provided to progress a roundabout proposal to improve junction safety at Orchardstown.
Minister Cummins added: “This Government is committed to ensuring continued safety for all road users, and a crucial part of that is protecting and revitalising our existing national, regional and local road network. This funding will enable us to repair, reinforce and maintain roads, ensuring they are fit for purpose. These improvements will enhance the overall safety of our road network and deliver long-lasting benefits for all road users in Waterford.”
Minister of State with responsibility for Rural Transport, Jerry Buttimer TD said: The allocation of €718m for regional and local roads will strengthen and support towns, villages and communities right across the country. It’s an investment that will improve connectivity, help local businesses thrive, and make everyday journeys to school, work and community activities safer and more convenient for families.”
