Minister of State for Planning & Local Government, John Cummins TD visited Passage East today to meet with those affected by recent flooding.
It follows the Waterford Fine Gael TD’s meeting with OPW Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran yesterday ahead of his visit to Waterford on Sunday.
Supports remain available to affected households and businesses such as the Emergency Response Payment (ERP) and the Emergency Humanitarian Flooding Scheme.
There is a three-stage approach to the Emergency Response Payment, Minister Cummins has highlighted, with each stage intended to assist with specific household items, reflecting the different needs that arise at various points following such weather events.
Minister Cummins said: “This morning I met with families and traders whose businesses and homes have been impacted, hearing first-hand accounts of the damage caused and the challenges now facing the community.
“It has been a very difficult and challenging time for people, businesses and the local community.
“I want to assure people that support is available to them and we will continue to work with those affected.
“I have engaged extensively with Minister Moran on the issues affecting Passage East and held a positive meeting with him yesterday ahead of his visit to the affected area on Sunday.
“All relevant departments, agencies and local authorities are fully focused on putting in place measures to mitigate the impact of further rain in the days ahead, and to ensure readiness to respond to any flooding incidents.
“Government schemes are available to support households, businesses, and community, voluntary and sporting bodies affected by flooding. We want to make sure those who need support get it, and quickly.
“I would like to thank all staff, crews - and especially volunteers - working in the aftermath of flooding to help people and businesses and preparing communities ahead of more wet weather to come.
“Waterford City and County Council staff will be on site in the days ahead and will do their best to help alleviate issues which continue to cause difficulties for those impacted,” Minister Cummins concluded.
