€5.53million in special funding for Waterford local roads to help fix damage caused by Storm Chandra

Minister of State for Planning & Local Government, John Cummins TD has announced the allocation of €5.53million in special funding for Waterford local roads as part of Storm Chandra Damage Remediation allocations.

The storm in late January caused significant damage to a number of roads across the county. Minister Cummins has engaged extensively since to ensure funding to help address the issues in the aftermath of the severe weather event.

Minister Cummins said: “I’m delighted that Waterford will receive €5.53 million as part of a €40 million fund nationwide to help repair roads which were damaged extensively by Storm Chandra. The storm had a severe impact on many of our communities locally, and I have been engaging closely with our local Fine Gael councillors, who have consistently highlighted the need for this funding and strongly advocated for these repairs. I’m pleased that we have been able to deliver this investment for Waterford so that the necessary works can now take place.”

“I’d also like to thank Waterford City & County Council for their work in this space. Ground teams have been out in extremely adverse weather conditions to help lessen the severity of their impact. Their commitment and professionalism has helped to protect our local communities during this challenging period in the aftermath of Storm Chandra.
