Minister of State for Planning & Local Government, John CumminsTD has welcomed the announcement that 27 new Gardaí will be assigned to the Waterford Division.

207 new Gardaí brings the force’s strength to its highest level in the history of the organisation.

Of those attesting today, 136 are men and 71 are women. They will be assigned to Garda divisions across the country by the Garda Commissioner, with 84 going to the Dublin Metropolitan Region, 76 to the Eastern Region, 27 to the North-Western Region and 20 to the Southern Region.

25 new Gardaí will be assigned to Waterford Garda Station whilst a further two Gardaí will be allocated to Dungarvan Garda Station. Minister Cummins said the new recruits will make a real difference locally.

“This announcement is welcome news, which will provide more Garda visibility and greater reassurance for people in our communities. The high visibility beats initiative will also be extended to Waterford, and this will help combat street crime, anti-social behaviour and public order issues. These additional Gardaíwill provide valuable support to their colleagues on the ground and ensure that our local Gardaí have the resources and personnel needed to carry out their important work.”

“A strong, visible and well-resourced Garda presence is essential to ensuring that people feel safe in our communities and I look forward to seeing the positive impact these additional resources will have locally. I want to congratulate every new Garda on today's achievement and wish them well. We look forward to welcoming those coming to Waterford.”
