Waterford Senator John Cummins has welcomed the announcement of €144,000 for three rural Waterford Communities under the 2021 CLÁR scheme. Kilbrien, Villierstown and Aglish will receive funding towards the provision of safety measures such as traffic calming, public lighting and footpaths in their communities. A total of 4.2 million in funding to support our schools, playgrounds, infrastructure projects and community organisations has been announced by Minister Humphries this morning. The Waterford projects are 3 of 104 separate projects being supported in towns and villages across rural Ireland.
CLÁR provides funding for small scale projects in designated rural areas that have experienced significant levels of population decline. The programme is one element of the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Rural Development Investment Programme, which provides a package of co-ordinated and complementary supports for rural areas.
The following Waterford communities will receive funding under Measures 1 and 2 of the fund:
Senator Cummins said “The projects announced today will help to improve safety around schools and community facilities and I know they will warmly welcomed in these three vibrant communities.
He added “I’d like to compliment the community groups in these areas who have worked extensively on these applications in conjunction with Waterford City & County Council and I hope that work will be able to commence on these projects without delay”.
Speaking at the announcement Minister Heather Humphreys said “
“The CLÁR Programme 2021 puts our young people at the fore. From investing in our schools, playgrounds, outdoor amenities, and other projects – we are demonstrating the value and appreciation we have for the leaders of the future. If the Pandemic has taught us one thing, it’s that our young people are our shining lights. Investing in them is an investment in our future – that’s what today’s announcement is all about. This particular announcement under my Department’s CLÁR Programme is the perfect example of why ‘Our Rural Future’ will be a game changer for Rural Ireland.
I also hope to make further announcements under Measure 3 of the CLÁR programme shortly.”
